Tim Culler, MBA-IS
Bio:
I have
taught at Renton Technical College full-time, since 2001. Prior to that, I
taught at Bellevue Community College part-time, since 1992, in two different
programs (Criminal Justice and Information Technology-Programming). I also did
the development work for a two year degree program in Database Administration
for BCC.
My interest and experience with computers came from an unexpected area…
it developed while I was in my prior career in Law Enforcement. I used
computers to do intelligence analysis and to catch drug smugglers!
I turned to teaching as a career when I retired from law enforcement. It has
been a great and rewarding decision!
My students range from age 16 to 60. They come from all walks of life. Some
students are fresh out of high schools, home schools, and foreign schools. Some
have just earned their GED's. Some are veterans, returning from active duty.
Some are working adults retraining, upgrading their education, or changing
careers. Many could never afford college without state-supported local
community colleges. The common thread is that for most of them, it will be a
life-changing experience.
I would not trade being a part of that experience for anything!
I particularly like that I can draw on both my education AND my real-life
experience to make the learning relevant for my students. My life has been full
of adventures, and teaching is just the latest adventure!
