Program Equipment Needs |
Student Learning Toolkit - $45

A collection of low-tech tools such as magnifiers, masking bars, rulers,
graph paper, sensory devices, sticky notes and colored overlays.
These allow students with sight impairments or limitations to read
materials more clearly and with added structure while doing so
Talking Dictionary - $90

Students can look up words and hear them pronounced and spelled out.
This is an excellent tool for students who have dyslexia or any
writing/reading challenges. This is also a useful aid for students
who are learning English.
Document Display Magnifier - $660

A magnifying device that connects to an existing LCD projector,
capturing the display onto a hard drive. This allows students to
see small parts or documents, while the annotation features allow
instructors to highlight and markup handouts or pages in books.
Demonstrations can also be captured as video clips for review at a later
time. Repetition is key for students with some learning
disabilities, particularly where sight, hearing and sequencing skills
may be limited.
Scanner - $700

Scanning of hard copy materials to digital format is key for students
can review materials in more than one venue or format. This also
allows certain materials or book pages to be transferred to screen
readers for students with visual or language limitations.
Mimeo Tool - $1000

A small portable device that attaches to any whiteboard or easel to
capture the hand-written notes. These notes are captured in
digital format for transfer to computers for review at a later time.
Students who have difficulty with note-taking can get copies of board
notes; instructors can "play back" note sequences so that material is
consistent. The portability of this device makes it easy to use in
a variety of existing settings.
LCD Projector - $1400

While most classrooms come standard with an overhead projector having
the option or addition of a portable projector in hands-on lab areas can
be an especially important aid for students with certain learning
disabilities. The ability to enlarge schematic drawings while
illustrating relationships among parts on a large screen allows
visibility from more parts of the room, while allowing the instructor to
add computer-generated documents, websites and videos to help further
illustrate various concepts.
Polyvision Board - $1600

Large wall-mounted interactive whiteboard connected to a computer and
LCD projector. This device allows for capture of whiteboard notes,
using "virtual" colored pens. Students who have trouble taking
notes due to hand impairments or a learning disability can get copies of
board notes and "play back" note sequences so that material can be
reviewed any number of times in a consistent manner
Tablet Laptop - $2300

A laptop with moveable display that turns into a writing area.
Instructors can capture hand-written diagrams or outlines notes and
digitize them into editable text. Annotation features allow for
highlighting to help students who are visual learners. Because the
instructor can control the board from the computer, this can also help
students with hearing problems because the instructor can continue to
face the classroom while annotating notes for overhead display.
