MEDEX Northwest at the University of Washington is a competitive master’s degree program that prepares students to become physician assistants. The program offers campus locations in Seattle, Tacoma, Spokane, Anchorage, and Kona.
To apply, you must hold a bachelor’s degree and meet MEDEX’s admissions requirements, which include:
- 2,000 hours of paid, direct, hands‑on patient care experience
- Demonstrated interest and/or service in primary care and/or underserved communities
- 3–5 strong clinical references
- Required Prerequisite Courses
- Two Human Anatomy & Physiology courses with labs: BIOL&241 Anatomy & Physiology I and BIOL&242 Anatomy & Physiology II
- One Biochemistry or Organic Chemistry course: CHEM&131 Organic Chemistry
- One Microbiology course: BIOL&260 Microbiology
- One Statistics or Biostatistics course: MATH&146 Intro to Statistics
Recommended courses—these courses are not required but help strengthen an application:
- Genetics
- Social Science (Sociology, Psychology, or Anthropology)
- Medical Terminology
To meet MEDEX standards:
- The overall GPA must be at least 3.0
- The combined prerequisite GPA must be at least 3.2
- All academic requirements must be completed within 7 years of application
