What is a CSA?
The Campus Security Department encourages all members of the campus community to report crimes on a timely basis. However, under the Clery Act, CSAs are required to report Clery Act qualifying crimes which occurred on campus, in public areas bordering campus and in certain non-campus buildings owned or controlled (leased) by RTC.
The law defines four categories of a Campus Security Authority:
- Campus Police Department or Campus Security
- Any individual who has responsibility for campus security, but does not constitute Police or Security.
- Any individual identified in the institutions policy which students and employees should report criminal offenses to.
- An official of an institution who has significant responsibility for student and campus activities, including but not limited to, student housing, student discipline, and campus judicial proceedings.

Clery Act qualifying Crimes:
- Criminal homicide (murder and manslaughter)
- Sex offenses, forcible & non-forcible (Include attempts)
- Aggravated assault (Include attempts)
- Robbery (Include attempts)
- Burglary (Include attempts)
- Motor vehicle theft (Include attempts)
- Arson (Include attempts)
- Hate crimes, including any of the seven crimes listed above, or any other crime causing bodily injury, if motivated by race, gender, gender identity, religion, sexual orientation, ethnicity, national origin or disability.
- Arrests and discipline referrals of students, staff, and faculty for liquor, drug and weapons law violations
- Domestic Violence
- Dating Violence
- Stalking
- Amendments to the Clery Act in 2008 expanded hate crimes to include:
- Larceny-theft
- Simple assault
- Vandalism
- Intimidation
