Apprenticeship Program:

In this 2-year program, an apprentice learns limited building maintenance, facilities operation, care, and cleaning. Apprentices work with journey-level technicians for their on-the-job training component and must complete classroom training.

To reach journey-level status an apprentice must complete 4,000 hours of on-the-job training and all required courses equating to a minimum of 288 hours of classroom instruction. Once achieved, they will receive a nationally recognized “certificate of completion” from the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries.

An apprentice normally starts at 70% of the contract journeymen scale. With on-the-job and supplemental classroom training combined the apprentice will receive a wage progression increase of 5% for the first 1,000 hours of on-the-job training and 72 hours of supplemental classroom instruction completed. The next two increases will be at 10% for every 1,000 hours of on-the-job training and 72 hours of supplemental classroom instruction, with the final increase at 5% for the completion of the apprenticeship program.
