Lawrence Carter, known as Executive Chef Larry Carter, was born in the 1950's and passed away on August 15, 2022. His longtime friend and, "brother from another mother," Elwood McLoud, shared that Larry purposely kept the year of his birth a secret, as he would not tell anyone his age.

Larry was born and raised in Houston, Texas, the oldest of four boys. He graduated from the University of Texas and attended several culinary institutes.

Elwood shared that, "Larry’s love language was his passion for all-things-culinary, and he expressed this passion by cooking professionally and for family and friends."

He opened restaurants across the country, which eventually brought him to the Pacific Northwest. "He loved the moderate climate with no 100-degree days, no humidity, and no snow!," shared Elwood.

After a trip home to visit his hospitalized mother, Larry was frustrated with the taste and nutritional quality of the food she received. He wanted to change healthcare food offerings to better serve the needs of patients and decided to reset his career path. For the past 25 years, Chef Larry has created healthy, great-tasting food for patients and staff in the healthcare industry, working in numerous facilities in the Seattle-Tacoma metropolitan area and in British Columbia, Canada.

Larry was a strong proponent of education and believed in mentoring others at all levels. In honor of Chef Larry's passion for food and education, you can make a scholarship donation in Larry’s memory to the Renton Technical College Culinary Arts program to benefit students.
