You’re approaching an exciting milestone at Renton Technical College. We’re proud of your hard work and accomplishments. Follow the steps below to apply for graduation and ensure your credential is processed correctly.

Important: Applying for graduation is required to receive your credential (degree, certificate, or diploma). Participation in the Commencement Ceremony on June 23, 2026, at the ShoWare Center is optional and requires separate registration.


Your Graduation Journey

Follow these steps to complete the graduation process and participate in commencement. 

1. Apply for Graduation

Submit your graduation application in ctcLink to receive your credentials (degree, certificate, or diploma).

2. Register for Commencement

Make sure there are no past-due balances on your student account, which will prevent your credential from being mailed to you.

3. Participate in the Ceremony

Celebrate your achievements with family, friends, and the RTC community. 

  1. Log in to your ctcLink student account
  2. Update your mailing address (required):
    •  In the Profile tile, confirm your mailing address is current. Update it if needed so your credential is mailed to the correct address.
  3. Add a preferred name (optional):
    • In Profile → Personal Details, click the + icon to add a preferred name you want printed on your credential. Select Degree, complete the fields, and click Save.
  4. Return to your Student Homepage
  5. Open Academic Progress
  6. Select "Apply for Graduation":
    • Click Apply for Graduation to open the Submit an Application for Graduation page.
  7. Choose your program:
    • If prompted, click Apply for Graduation again, then select your Academic Program.
  8. Select your expected graduation term:
    • Choose a term from the Expected Graduation Term drop-down menu and review the instructions shown for that term.
  9. Verify and submit your application:
    • Click Continue, review your information, then select Submit Application. A confirmation page will appear once your application is successfully submitted.

If you completed your program before 2015 or would like to request a replacement or duplicate degree, certificate, or diploma, please do so via Parchment. The cost per one credential is $25.

Will I receive my diploma, degree, or certificate at the ceremony?

No, official credentials are not given out at commencement. You will receive a blank credential cover during the ceremony. Your diploma, degree, or certificate will be mailed to you after your graduation application is reviewed and processed at the end of your final quarter.

How long will it take to receive my degree, certificate, diploma?

All graduation applications will be processed at the end of each quarter. Please allow 4-6 weeks after the end of the quarter for processing.

Will RTC hold my degree, certificate, diploma if I have a past due tuition hold?

Yes, but once you pay off past due tuition, you can notify the Credentials office send your credential out.

How soon should I meet with my program advisor before completing my program?

You are recommended to meet with your Program Advisor two quarters before your last quarter. Once your Program Advisor determines you are on track to complete your program, they will apply a “Graduation Ready” milestone to your student account. 

Do I have to attend the commencement ceremony?

Attending Commencement is optional but students are highly encouraged.

Does it cost to apply to graduate?

Applying for graduation is free. 

Can I request more than one of the same credential?

RTC will provide your first credential at no cost. A duplicate or replacement diploma can be ordered via Parchment for $25.

Where can I get more information regarding the next Commencement Ceremony?

Does RTC maintain or mail GED exam results?

No, RTC does not possess GED records. Please visit the GED site for transcripts or call 1-877-392-6433.
