Promoting a safe and inclusive learning environment for LGBTQ students

We are committed to promoting a safe and inclusive learning environment for LGBTQ+ students at Renton Technical College. There are a number of resources and programs on campus specifically supporting LGBTQ students, staff and faculty and their allies:

  • LGBTQ Terminology and FAQs: This document serves as a guide for RTC staff, faculty and students to commonly-asked questions and terminology related to the LGBTQ community. Use this guide to help inform conversations focused on LGBTQ issues.
  • Preferred Name Policy: RTC students may add a preferred name to their online information. To do this, simply go to this website and log in. Note: Your legal name will still appear on online services. This allows you to communicate the name you go by to your instructors.
    • Log in with your Student ID Number and Date of Birth
    • Once logged in, click on [Change My Contact Information] and enter your preferred name.
    • Make sure you click “Update
  • Technical Orientation Club: RTC’s queer and transgender student club. To join this club, visit the Student Leadership Office in J216.
  • All-Gender Bathrooms
RTC transgender students, faculty, and staff have the right to use bathrooms that best match their gender identity. In an effort to make our campus safer for transgender people, there are single-occupant All Gender Bathrooms across campus. If you need help locating a bathroom, please ask in the Student Leadership office (J-216). We are working on a map of All Gender Bathrooms now.

The RTC Technical Orientation Club identified additional bathroom facilities across campus that offer more privacy. Come to the Student Leadership Office (J216) to learn more.
