Degree Overview

Associate in Business

In the Business DTA/MRP degree, you will build a strong foundation in business fundamentals like accounting, economics, business law, and business calculus to prepare for a bachelor’s degree program in business. Alongside your business coursework, you’ll complete general education classes in math, science, humanities, and social sciences, which help you develop essential skills in critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving. This 90-credit associate’s degree is designed for transfer in Washington State: 

  • DTA (Washington Direct Transfer Agreement): A degree that prepares students for transfer to all public universities and many private colleges in Washington State.
  • MRP (Major Related Program): A transfer degree that prepares students for high demand bachelor’s degree programs that require specific prerequisite courses in the first two years.

Students completing the Associate in Business DTA/MRP degree may pursue majors (bachelor’s degrees) in these fields. Many universities have a College of Business where you can choose a specialization for your major. Some majors or universities may have additional requirements beyond this degree, like a calculus-based statistics class. Be sure to work with your adviser & transfer university to select courses and plan your transfer.

OTHER INFORMATION

There are no admissions requirements to take classes for the Business DTA. Here are some recommendations to get started:

  • Some business bachelor's programs have competitive admissions. For many universities you will need a cumulative GPA significantly above a 2.0 and a higher GPA in specific classes to transfer.
  • Transfer requirements are different at each university and business program, and you may need to complete requirements beyond the degree.
  • Business transfer students should talk with their future university early on to plan for application requirements and specific classes to choose within the degree.  See the university specific recommendations on the Business DTA worksheet.
  • Completing this degree does not guarantee admission to any university.
  • Some universities may require that you take 10 credits of world language at the college level if you did not complete two years of a world language in high school, or take a test if you already speak another language. If your goal is international business, a higher level of world language competency may be required. Talk to a transfer adviser at your future university for more information.

  • Total of 90 college-level credits required
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 to graduate
  • 2.0 GPA or higher required in Business Law and all Accounting classes, minimum passing grade of 1.0 GPA required in other classes
  • A course cannot count toward more than one area or requirement
  • At least 25% of this 90-credit degree must be completed at RTC
  • Students must apply for graduation
