High School Placement and Progression Policy
This policy outlines the expectations, supports, and procedures that guide student progress to and through program completion.
General Requirements
Attendance
Please refer to your teacher’s syllabus regarding attendance requirements for the class. If you know you’re going to be absent for an extended period of time, please let your teacher know.
Students with no participation/communication for 2 weeks might be removed from class. If you are removed from class and would like to return-please contact askccp@rtc.edu or your instructor to join classes again.
How Do I Know I’m Making Progress?
Progress is demonstrated a variety of ways:
- Grades and course completion:
- Satisfactory completion of courses and assignments
- Evidence of Skill Gains:
- Demonstrated progress on projects, class assessments, mastery of course outcomes, attaining credit towards diploma, etc.
- Standardized Assessments:
- Performance on standardized tests (such as GED, other occupation/knowledge-based exams)
Course Repetition Policy
The mission of our High School Program is to support students in attaining their high school credentials. If a student isn’t making progress towards this goal, we have multiple pathways to facilitate a high school credential.
If a student isn’t making progress in a course for more than three quarters, we may defer enrollment to:
- A different instructor
- A different style of class (online, in-person, project-based versus lecture-led instruction)
- HS+, GED, ELA or Open Doors depending on a student's individual goals and eligibility
Transition Support at Program Completion
- Completion Support
- When a student reaches the highest level of the program or graduates, staff are available to support the transition to further education or employment.
- Referral to a Navigator/Transitions Specialist
- Graduates can be connected with a navigator or transitions specialist who can offer guidance on post-program opportunities, whether that means pursuing further education, entering the workforce, or exploring additional training.
- Disability Resource Office
- Students who need accommodations or additional support due to a disability are encouraged to contact our Disability Resource Office. The office provides a range of services to ensure that all students have equitable access to their education. For more information or to arrange accommodations, students can contact the Disability Resource Office directly.
