Apply for Running Start
Follow the steps below and email the completed application packet to cgood@rtc.edu.
- Apply online to Renton Technical College to get a ctcLink student ID number, be sure to select that you are a Running Start student. Application takes 3-5 business days to process. You will receive an email once your application has been processed.
- Once you receive your ctcLink ID number, Activate ctcLink account
- Once you have you have your ctcLink ID number, complete the FREE English Directed Self-Placement assessment online. If you need accommodations for the assessment, please contact our Disability Resource Services office at drs@rtc.edu or call 425-235-2352 ext. 5540
- Complete and electronically sign the Running Start Intent and Agreement
- Review the Running Start steps on your high school website and meet with your High School Counselor to complete the Enrollment Verification Form (this form must be completed every quarter), once complete, email form to: cgood@rtc.edu
- Request an unofficial transcript from your High School Counselor, email copy to: cgood@rtc.edu
- The Running Start office will email you with next steps once all documents are reviewed.
New Summer Running Start
Summer quarter classes run from July 8 to August 15.
Registration for Summer and Fall quarters begins on May 13 for current students and May 20 for new students.
Deadline to enroll in summer quarter: July 5, 2024 (keep in mind, high school counselor permission is required to participate, and counselors are out for summer break at the end of June)
How to Enroll
Registration for Summer and Fall quarters happens at the same time. You must submit separate enrollment verification forms for each quarter you wish to attend. Completed forms should be emailed to cgood@rtc.edu.

- Declaration of Intent Form (only required in certain cases, see below)
New Running Start Students
Current 10th (class of 2026), 11th (class of 2025), and non-graduating 12th graders: You may be eligible to take up to 10 college credits during summer quarter. You must complete the steps above and then the Summer 2024 EVF with your high school counselor. Please note: Summer quarter is more condensed than a regular quarter (six weeks instead of the regular 11 weeks).
Continuing Running Start Students
Current 11th graders (class of 2025), 12th graders NOT graduating in June 2024, and current fifth year and beyond seniors:
- Fill out the Summer 2024 EVF with your high school counselor to see how many credits you qualify for in Summer quarter. Email completed summer EVF to cgood@rtc.edu.
- If you find that you don’t qualify for any credits, fill out the Declaration of Intent Form with your high school counselor and email to cgood@rtc.edu. You can then take up to 10 credits through a special funding source.
Graduating Seniors (class of 2024):
If you are within 15 credits of completing an associate degree (AA, AAS, or AAS-T degree, NOT a certificate), you may be eligible for Summer quarter through the After-Exit funding source. Please fill out the Declaration of Intent Form with your high school counselor and return the form to cgood@rtc.edu. After-Exit funding is only available in Summer quarter 2024.
