Over 400 people toured RTC’s new $20 million automotive technology complex May 11. Car collectors showcased their wheels, and everyone enjoyed live music, international cuisine and food truck fare.

The event, sponsored by the O’Brien Auto Group, provided hands-on demonstrations and student-led tours of the new 63,000 square foot complex. Auto technicians are in high-demand throughout the state with jobs waiting for program graduates and starting salaries at a median of $57,000.

“Without the training and expertise of Renton Technical College we would have a difficult time finding and training quality technicians in today’s market.  The automotive partnership we have with RTC will help us for many years to come.”

Michael O’Brien, Owner, O’Brien Auto Group

The grand opening featured a career fair sponsored by numerous local companies and organizations including; AAA Washington, ASA Northwest, Car Pros, Car Toys, Firestone, Ford ASSET, Fred Meyer, Honda of Seattle, Iden’s Dealer Services, Pepsico, Toyota of Seattle and Walker’s Mazda Subaru.

“The RTC Grand Opening was outstanding, the state of the art equipment, the professional training the instructors are providing students is so important for the future of the automotive industry. There is no greater challenge facing our industry than ensuring we have the talent we need now and in the future to continue the success of the automotive industry and RTC is proving they are up for the challenge.”
